Mary’s mother lived with John after Mary’s death, probably to help with the four young children, according to the 1905 census. John remarried (Mary Elizabeth DAVIS) in December of 1905.
Obituaries
Mrs. Mary A. Simpson, wife of John Simpson, who works in the supply yard at the Frisco. died last night at 9:30 at the family home, 1626 East Pine street after a short illness. The deceased was 27 years of age, and the cause of death was pneumonia fever. The deceased had many friends who will regret to learn of her early demise. The funeral will be held tomorrow morning at 9 o’clock from the Catholic church, conducted by Father McKernan. Interment will be made in Catholic cemetery.

The funeral of Mrs. J.L. Simpson was held this morning at 9:30. Services were conducted by Father Urban of the Catholic church. A large number of sympathizing friends gathered to show their last tribute of respect to her who was called to serve her Maker at the early hour in life. Mrs. Simpson leaves a mother, a husband, and four small children to mourn their loss. The funeral was in charge of the Harrison Mutual Burial Association. The pallbearers were members of the W.O.W. drill team.

John SIMPSON and son have been hauling saw logs to the LaCygne mill.


1896, John is a laborer, and lives at 1215 East Pine. 1898, and John works for the KCFtS&MRR. He, his father, and brothers George and William H. live at 1024 East Wall Street. Fort Scott, Kansas Directory of 1902-1903 shows John working as a laborer, and living at 1211 East Pine Street. Fort Scott, Kansas Directory of 1905 reports John working as car repair for the St. Louis and San Francisco Railroad, and that he has moved to 212 North Little, with his brother, William H.
By 1907, John has moved to 421 South Little.
Directory of 1909 reports John working as a yard inspector for the St. Louis and San Francisco Railroad, and that he has moved to 209 South Caldwell. 1911, John is working as a car inspector for the St. Louis and San Francisco Railroad, and that he has moved to 316 Andricks. By 1916, John is still employed by the St. Louis and San Francisco Railroad, and has moved to 809 South Little. The 1920 listing for John shows him still working for the Frisco, and moved to 801 South Little. His mother’s obituary of 1925 indicates that John is still alive as of that date. 1930 John has moved in with his daughter Treatha and son-in-law, Harrell W. Dobbins in McCamey, Upton, Texas (West Texas, near Odessa)

Mary E.’s obituary 1937 says that John lived in Detroit, possibly connected with Jasper BROWN.

John dies in 1944 at his daughter Theresa Dobbins’s home in Tyler, Texas - 122 West 5th Street. (Note: This is an address in McCamey, Texas)
