Johnnie S. Simpson, 65, of 5871 Granada street, Fairway, died yesterday at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He served as crew chief of the Sacred Cow, the presidential airplane used by Franklin D. Roosevelt, for several years.

Mr. Simpson retired as a master sergeant in the Air Force in 1947 after 27 years service. Upon returning from World War II duty in Europe, Simpson became crew chief of the Sacred Cow. The airplane, which entered service in 1944, was designed so that Roosevelt could wheel his chair around the cabin.

Mr. Simpson was born in Fort Scott, Kas.,and had lived here 20 years. He was employed in the protection service of the Federal Reserve bank from 1948 to 1965. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic church and the Camera Club of the Federal Reserve bank.

Surving are his wife, Mrs. Geneva Simpson, of the home; a brother, Edward Simpson, Topeka, and a sister, Mrs. Treatha Warren, Wichita Falls, Tex.

Services will be held at 10:30 o’clock Wednesday at teh church and at 1:30 o’clock at the graveside in Fort Leavenworth National cemetery. The rosary will be said at 8:30 o’clock Tuesday night at the Mellody-McGilley-Eylar chapel, Linwood and Main, where friends may call after 3 o’clock today.
