In 1930, Orville is a meatcutter for Mrs. Mabel L. Whiteside, and lives at home 1238 East Wall Street. The Fort Scott Directory of 1938 lists Orville and Josephine. He works as a meatcutter at Whiteside’s No. 1, along with his brother, Clarence. He and Josephine live at 112 West Oak Street. The Kansas City Kansas Directory of 1945 lists Orville as a clerk for Kroger’s, and living at 726 Washington Boulevard. By 1950, he and Dorothy had moved to 1932 North 14th Street, where they lived at the time their son was born. They moved to the Missouri side in 1952, then on to Fort Scott, Kansas before taking up residence at 4137 East 11th Street in Kansas City, Missouri in 1955
Kath and I drove through KCK 8 apr 2006 and the house at 1932 North 14th no longer exists.

Orville Marvin Simpson, of 4137 East 11th, died Monday at a doctor’s office(1) at 4620 J.C. Nichols Parkway. He was born in Fort Scott, Kan., and had lived here 32 years. He was retired meat cutter and fish bait manufacturer. He was member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Scott. He was a Mason. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Simpson of the home; two sons, William Simpson, Orange, Calif., and Orville Simpson, Jr., Castle Rock, Colo.; a daughter, Mrs. Sonjalee Helm, Denver; a brother, Clarence Simpson, Mt. Vernon, Wash.; three sisters, Mrs. Sarah Henning, Kansas City, Mrs. Dorothy Coleman, 4031 Georgia, Kansas City, Kansas, and Mrs. Gladys Wurtz, 923 Norton, and three grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Blackman-Guardian Chapel; burial in Bethel Cemetery, Leavenworth. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.

In 1938, Dorothy works for the Meyer Sanitary Milk Company. In 1940, both she and sister Jane worked at Meyers. The Kansas City Kansas Directory of 1945 lists Dorothy as a store Manager for Kroger Grocery & Baking Company, and living at 726 Washington Boulevard with Orville.
Dorothy died at the height of the New Year’s Blizzard, 1979. Approximately two and a half feet of snow fell in Kansas City from New Year’s Eve 1978 to January 2, 1979. It was bitterly cold. Her burial was delayed until the ground thawed enough to allow a grave to be dug. She was buried in Bethel Cemetery in March of that year.
