Walter Potchad, 81, of Overland Park, KS passed away August 3, 2003, at Shawnee Mission Medical center. Services will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2003, at 10 a.m. at Queen of the Holy Rosary Church, 71st and Metcalf. Friends may call 9-10 a.m. Wednesday before the service. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations to Queen of the Holy Rosary Building Fund. Burial Maple Hill Cemetery.

Walter was born September 22, 1921 in Basin, WY, and was a lifelong resident of the Kansas City area. He served as an Army M.P. during WWII in the OPacific Theatre, returning to the Kansas City area and working for General Motors until his retirement in 1986. He had a passion for baseball, which he coached and umpired well into his sixties. He was a loyal member of UAW Local 31, The American Legion Post 327, and the Eagles #1100. Walter is survived by his wife of 24 years, Jean; his daughters Karen Erny of Shawnee, Susan Kendall and her husband, Jim, of Kansas City, KS, Gloria Kelley and her husband, Kevin, of Kansas City, KS, Jackie Hicks and her husband John, of Olathe, Debbie Staub and her husband, Mike, of Overland Park, and Teri Jewett and her husband, Kevin, of Lenexa. He also leaves his nephew, Mike Potchad of Overland Park and many grandchildrfen and great-grandchildren. (Arrangements: The Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee, 913-631-5566)
