John Brown, 67, a retired farmer and trucker and a resident of Fort Scott and Bourbon county his entire life, died suddenly yesterday morning at 10:15 at the intersection of Wall and Caldwell streets.

Brown, who made his home with is sister, Mrs.William H. Simpson. at 1238 East Wall, was returning home after making some purchases at the Galvin Drug Store at 704 East Wall, when he collapsed on the sidewalk. Death was attributed to a heart ailment. 1

The deceased was born in the Chapel Grove neighborhood northeast of the city on Feb. 12, 1882, a son of Jacob and Martha Brown. He was married to Rosa D. McGinley, who died Nov. 26, 1940.

He is survived by three brothers, Gus of Yakima, Wash., Harrison of Carl Junction., and T.J. of Wichita, and one sister, Mrs. Ada Mae Simpson of this city. There are several nieces and nephews.

No funeral arrangements have been made. The body will be at the Cheney Parlor chapel until the hour of the services.

Funeral services for John Brown, who died suddenly at Wall and Caldwell streets last Sunday morning will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at teh Cheney Memorial chapel. The Rev. A.C. Conrad of the First Baptist Church will officiate abd interment will be in the Evergreen cemetery.

Funeral services for John W. Brown, retired trucker and farmer who died suddenly at Wall and Caldwell streets Sunday morning, were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Cheney Memorial chapel. The Helping Hand class of the Baptist church and the Count on Me class of the Church of God attended in a body.

The Rev. A.C. Conrad of the Baptist church conducted the services and music was furnished by Mrs. O.J. Queen and Mrs. Minor Amey, who sang two duets. Mrs. Frank Decker was the organist.

Interment was in Evergreen cemetery. Pallbearers, all nephews of the deceased, were Orville M. Simpson, Forest M. Simpson, Clarence A. Simpson, Otto M. Coleman, Sam Henning and Lawrence Wurtz.

Out-of-town relatives here for the services were Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Simpson and sons Roger and Edward, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Henning and family, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Wurtz, Kansas City; Mr. and Mrs. Otto Coleman and family, Mr. and Mrs. O.M. Simpson, Kansas City, Kas.; Mr. and Mrs. T.J. Brown, Wichita; Mrs. Marie Bunting, a step-daughter, and her grandson, Mountain Home, Mo.

Harrison Brown, a brother, of Carl Junction, Mo., was unable to be here. He was injured in a mine accident two and a half months ago. His condition was such that it was not deemed advisable to notify him of his brother’s death.
